House & room door seals
How do you find the right door seal?
- Determine the need: First, identify what the seal should protect against - draughts, noise, dust, water or cold.
- Measure the door: The dimensions of the door are crucial, including the width of the gap between the door and the floor or frame.
- Consider the type of door: Different doors (front doors, room doors, garage doors) require different types of seals.
- Select material and seal type: Different materials and types (rubber, foam, brushes, etc.) are suitable depending on the requirements.
- Installation type: There are self-adhesive seals and those that have to be nailed or screwed in place. The choice depends on the nature of the door and personal preferences.
What door seals are available?
- Foam seals: Flexible and cost-effective, good for irregular gaps.
- Rubber seals: Durable and weatherproof, suitable for a wide range of gap sizes.
- Brush seals: Ideal against dust and small insects, often used on the underside of external doors.
- Profile seals: Made of rubber or silicone, dimensionally stable and for precise seals around the door frame.
- Threshold seals: Specially designed for the floor area to keep draughts and water out.
What is the rebate width for doors?
The rebate width refers to the distance between the door and the door frame into which the seal is fitted. This width is particularly important for rebate seals as they need to fit precisely to be effective. The standard rebate width varies depending on the door type and manufacturer, but can often be between 12 and 15 mm.
