Shutter hinges

Doors, gates or even shutters can be perfectly connected with shutter hinges. These are components with clamps or hinges that are attached to posts or frames. The advantage of these load-bearing elements: they are extremely robust, stable and durable and can be installed quickly. In our online shop, we offer you shutter hinges in different lengths, adjustable or fixed variants, with or without hinges, as well as those for heavy gates.

Finding the right shutter hinges

To find the right shutter hinge, three aspects in particular are important:

  • Length: The shutter strap should be at least two thirds as long as the width of the door you want to fix. This means, for example, that if you have a 90 cm wide door in front of you, you need a shutter strap that is at least 60 cm long.
  • Material: Whether stainless steel, yellow galvanised or hot-dip galvanised - shutter hinges are available in different designs. They are not only suitable for indoor use, but also for outdoor use. The thickness of the material also plays a role. The following applies: The heavier the design, the more stable the shutter hinge. Heavy doors and gates therefore also require more robust shutter hinges, while lighter variants manage with more filigree shutter hinges.
  • Application: The intended use usually determines whether a fixed or adjustable shutter hinge makes more sense. While interior shutter hinges are often fixed, adjustable shutter hinges are better for exterior wooden doors or gates. This is because gates or wooden fences outside the house are exposed to the weather and can therefore warp. If they no longer close properly after some time, they can be quickly readjusted.

3 frequently asked questions about shop hinges and our answers

To help you choose and fit them, here are three of the most frequently asked questions we've received about shop straps, and our answers:

Are shutter tapes usable on one or both sides?

This question cannot be answered in a general way - there are shutter hinges that can be used on one side as well as on both sides. If doors and gates are only opened in one direction, single-sided hinges are used. Double-sided hinges, on the other hand, can be opened in both directions and are used for garden doors, for example.

Are there shutter hinges with special safety functions?

Yes - these include anti-theft protection, child safety or fire protection. Anyone who owns a gate or a door that has to fulfil certain security requirements should therefore inform themselves in this regard in order to decide on the right shutter hinge.

Can I install shutter hinges myself?

Shutter hinges can be easily installed by yourself with a little manual skill. Depending on the type of hinge and the installation method, different tools are needed - usually a screwdriver, cordless screwdriver, tape measure, drill, screws, spirit level and hammer are essential.
