Gate latches
What are gate latches?
Gate latches are mechanical devices that are used to automatically lock gates as soon as they are closed. They typically operate by a spring-loaded system or by gravity, which engages the latch or latch bolt into a guide or receiver on the gate post or frame. This ensures that the gate remains securely closed without additional manual action.
The main function of a gate latch is to provide convenience and security. It allows garden gates, driveway gates or other access gates to be easily closed and locked without the need for a key to lock the gate from the outside. This is particularly useful in situations where quick access or exit is required, or when hands are full and free access to the key or lock is not possible.
Gate latches come in a variety of designs and materials to meet different security requirements, gate sizes and weights, and aesthetic preferences. Some are designed so that they can be fitted with a lock or latch for added security in addition to the automatic locking mechanism.
